After Tracy had completed
the box of 3/4" poplar, she and I both wanted to try our hands at a small box. I have
cut 1/4" Canarywood for the sides and 1/4" Honduras Rosewood for the ends.
Rather than to detail each and every step, I will simply use pictures and
brief captions.

1. She selects a 6mm dovetail bit.

2. Installs it in the router.

3. Sets the flat side of slides.

4. Clamps the sides in the fixture.

5. Sets the plunge depth by the end piece.

6. Uses pantograph to space tails.

7. Marks the center points on the face.
8. Uses Large Cursor to draw lines.

9. Makes dovetail cuts at each line.

10. Cartwheels sides to do other ends.

11. Removes completed sides.

12. Changes to 10mm straight bit.

13. Turns and sets angled slides.

14. Uses adjustable square to set 2nd slide.

15. Tries the fit of a test pin.

16. Cuts all the pins.

17. Views her finished box.
And a beautiful box it is.
Those tiny dovetails are great for this type of decorative boxes.
I do not want to "over simplify" this process. This box took about
20 minutes to create, and about 5 minutes of that was for shooting the pictures. Tracy
also did the test pin and made adjustments two times before she was ready to make the
actual pins.
So far, the LittleRat has performed very well for through dovetails. Next
week, we will start doing 1/2 blind dovetails.
