New Product - "LittleRat - Through Dovetails"

Tracy will cut the tails in both sides clamped together. She orients the boards so that the inside is facing her. To do this, she has somersaulted the right hand board. Once you get to understand the markings, all this becomes much clearer.

She clamps the boards so that the inside surfaces are toward her and the tops are even with the fixture.

She has cranked the boards so that they are directly under the bit. She now wants to depth the dovetail bit. She starts by lowering the router until the dovetail bit just contacts the tops of the sides (inset.) She locks the router height at this point.

She places a piece of the same stock in the depth stop and adjusts and locks the depth stop to this thickness.

She is now ready to start the cuts. She pushes the router back, plunges and locks it and then turns the crank until the Large Cursor is at the first line (arrow). She turns the router on and pulls it towards her until it is cleanly through both pieces, then pushes it back so that she can move the wood to the next position. [Note: her hand is on the plunge bar only for the sake of this picture. For these cuts, she uses both router handles just as she would use normally.]

She has rotated the two sides and has now cut both ends. She inspects the cuts and puts these aside so she can start the matching pins for the ends.

Tracy has unplugged the router and removed the dovetail bit. She has selected the 10mm straight bit to cut the pins.

With the straight bit installed, she removes the red screws and turns the slides around so that the angled side is next to the router plate.
Tracy is holding the clear plastic "Little Cursor."

The LittleRat tutorial shows a bit more detail. It also gives great step-by-step instructions on how to adjust the slide. Basically, you line the clear plastic with the midpoint of the slide and then move the slide until the cursor is over the scale for the straight bit.
I know this isn't clear enough, but I leave that for the on-line tutorial. Once this slide is set, Tracy locks  the slide by tightening the red turnscrews.

Both slides need to be set in the same way. Tracy and I found that it is easier to set one slide exactly per the instructions and then set the other slide using the adjustable square, having measured the first slide. We have a good reason for doing this — that in a minute.
