Stots Template Master

|
The Stots Dovetail Master is the cheapest way for any woodworker to
get into making his or her own dovetails. For just over $50, one can start making dovetail
jigs that are precise and easy to use as easy an precise as the jigs costing
hundreds of dollars.
In this review of the product, I made the simple "starter" jig and
them made a dovetailed corner with this clever jig it was perfect the very first
time.

With the Stots Template Master working so well and
so easily, I turned to making some specialty jigs for a couple of products I like to
build: butler trays and blanket chests.
The butler tray I wanted to do had always been done with but joints simply
because the angled corners couldn't be done in the commercial jig I had. I thought that I
could construct a jig to handle the angled pieces and I did (top). I was delighted to find
that I could make dovetails in these angled corners just as easy and accurate as the
square corners.
My other favorite projects are blanket chests. Because of their width (22-24
inches, it was not possible to do these sides in the usual 12" width jigs. I made one
that was 24 inches wide and had both wide and narrow tails. I could use this jig either on
the router table or clamped to my bench. It works great.

Here is a little picture of the Stots Saw Aid in use. I
have never reviewed this product I just use it all the time. Fact is, for years I
have used the standard yellow plastic stick that with its wobbled always seemed to be a
"dangerous safety aid." SO when I first found the Stots Saw Aid, I instantly
liked it. It gives me a comfortable feel and holds the workpiece as securely as if I had
both hands on it.
