Now Beth starts
drilling the dowel holes. The Dowelmax jig has 5 drill bushings. On this joint, she will
drill all five, but she can opt to drill 4, 3 ... or any number of holes. With the pieces
always oriented by the checkmarks, the holes will always be aligned.

Beth inspects the
holes. They are very crisp and clean holes.
Note an "X" remains. This is one of the marks Beth used earlier.
The check mark was at the common end of the joint (side facing away this time) and the
"X" was placed on the face to be drilled. It is very easy to get these wrong
so use the marking system.
Beth now has the stile
in the vise and is aligning the checkmark of the Dowelmax with the checkmark she had made
on the stile.
She drills the five holes
here.
The "moment
of truth." The dowels look good but the true test will be when the two pieces are
actually meshed.
So
far, so good.
Beth's first dowel joint is
a perfect joint. The Dowelmax so far is easy to use and very accurate.
