As
soon as I assembled the first box, I realized that a rounded front board would look funny
when the add-on front was attached. My solution was to slice off 1/2 of the front. This
cut would be just short of the dovetails so should not effect structural strength at all.

Here is am getting a
look at what it will be like with the add on front. It will be much better this way.

I run a rabbet on all four
sides of the drawer bottoms. Initially, I had cut a 1/8" kerf in the drawer sides. I
was intending to use some 1/8" Baltic birch. I changed my mind and cut 1/4"
luaun plywood. It will look good, and I have plenty of it. So, I just rabbeted the ply to
1/8" thickness on the edges.

It is now easy to slide
the bottom panel into the drawer assembly. I am using carpenter's glue applied to the
dovetails and a couple of 1" brads to hold the joint while the glue sets. I wouldn't
necessarily use the brads, but I do not have enough clamps for gluing up all the
drawers at one time.
I hate to halt the story at this point, but I must. Next time I will fit the
drawers, mount the drawer fronts, and finish the chest.
