New Tool Review - "Festool Circular Saw."

Here is the right setup. It is much more solid than what we had last week.
I have adjusted the CutList plan so that Karla and I can dado and rabbet the sides and back. Each of the components is slightly different.
Rather than to take the time I have with Karla tomorrow, I decided that I would go ahead and cut each of the pieces to size. And for a fun challenge, I am going to time myself.
Actually, the time is on each shot I take along the way. I will use that to keep the  "stop-watch" accurate. I am not trying to "beat the clock," but I am interested in seeing how fast it really goes with the right setup.

The first thing I want to do is to take 1/2" off the long side. There are quite a few dings here. Actually, these panels come 49" by 97" — the extra inch is to do just this.
I use a piece of 1/2" ply to serve as a spacer for setting the long guide rail.

Two minutes in, and I am ready to start the first cut.

Now, I cut off the left hand section. As I did last week, I am using the print out from the CutList Plus program to dictate where I cut.

I am completing the first cross cut. This will give me the 23 X 32 piece that I mark as "C" - it is the base.

Now I am measuring to set up the long cut of the 34 1/2" pieces.

I have measured and clamped the long guide. Making the cut is a breeze.

Note that I am not removing pieces as I finish a cut. I simply separate them by a couple of inches — enough for me to saw one piece without touching another. Here, I am measuring 24" for one of the sides.

    I make the cut.

I measure for the next cut — the other side.

Thirty minutes have gone by and I have cut most of the major parts of the cabinet. Remember that I was not racing. Fact is, I find that if I just maintain a steady pace and check and re-check each measurement, the final outcome is better. Also remember that I have been running to the camera to set up each of these shots.
One more thing, I usually have Sal to help when cutting up these large panels. This was done by my self, and it was quite easy to do.

I am now ready for Karla. The basic pieces are cut. I have marked the plan where I need dados. So tomorrow Karla and I will try out the Festool Router. It makes use of the same guide system, so I think it should work really well.
