"Making an Under Table Storage Area

This week we wanted to start making the Domino loose tenons. In order to meet our "± Ø" specs, we decided to place the component parts back on the table. Elena starts by reattaching the end panel to the MFT table. She will only use one bolt for this operation.

She muscles the table over so that the end panel is on the worktable.

.       The arrow points to where she has clamped a right angle bracket that she will use to hold the top shelf in place.

She uses a couple of more right angle brackets to put the vertical divider in place.

She uses an 1 3/4" Forstner bit to drill a hole where she will be putting a notch. This notch will allow the bottom panel to fit around the caster mechanism.

A Japanese pull saw makes quick work of completing the notches.

Now she can fit the bottom shelf into position.

With all the spacing devices the Domino has, you wonder why I go to any length to create a new spacing device.
It is easy. I like to move the Domino to the next position by using the side of the machine. This is very easy to see no matter how you are looking at it.
Elena uses our story pole and marks a Domino width with a marking pen.

She sets the cutter width to the mid position to allow some flexibility to the 5mm Domino which she will use.

Whoops. You can see already, that before we get the first Domino mortise cut, our notch is on the way. We could mark a special point earlier or we could just skip this one since we have so many solid locations.
Since we only have two notches, we will mark a special location and make the mortise there.

This is how we cut the mortises in the mating piece. The story stick is hand clamped where the upper line of the shelf would be and Domino mortises are cut by the marks.
