  Now the sliding dovetails in the rails. These will hold the cross-brace that we will cut in a moment.

Remove the fences. Add a miter gage to the table.

   We could mark where the cuts are to be made and do it by eye but it is easier and more accurate to clamp a stop block so that the cut will be made at 4” from both ends.

   Make 2 cuts on each piece. Each one is 4” from the end. They are through dovetails since the ends will not be seen. I use a backer board to minimize the chance of splintering at the back of the cut.
