With all the boards
trimmed, I am ready to go to the next step.
I am using the Incra Project Book to guide me step-by-step through this
complicated joint. I think that the illustrations and instructions in this book are
excellent. I do not want to cut all the boards and find that I missed a step.

The instructions call for cutting a rabbet on the ends of either the sides or the end
pieces. Since the ends are shorter, I opted to cut these they will be easier to
handle.
The boards have to be passed vertically over the dovetail bit that is set to
make a 7/16" depth cut. I pull out my trusty vertical holder that I made some time
ago.

Making the cut is easy even with this long board.

Here is the completed
cut. Now, I have to do the other seven end boards.

I next make the
"C" cuts in all the ends. I was afraid that I would have a lot of breakout of
the fragile trim pieces, so I decided to use the 3/8" straight bit as I did before.
It is double the amount of work, but I didn't want to chance breaking these ends at this
point.

Here is a close up of the
joint with the straight bit cuts.

A few minutes later,
and all the "C" dovetails are done.

I just had to
try a walnut corner post on the new ends. I think it will look good, but there are a few
more steps to complete before I can glue them in place.
