I said that we could use either the scroll saw or the bandsaw for cutting the template
shapes. Maureen thought she would be more comfortable with the scroll saw.
After doing one shape, she asked if I would show her how to use the bandsaw.
Certainly the scroll saw would work well, but the bandsaw is ideal for all the shapes that
will be cut.

She watches as I make the first cut.

Having had several years of
woodshop in high school, the bandsaw skill comes back to her rather quickly. Cutting
the 1/4" template is good material for her to practice on.
|
She uses a drum sander mounted in the
drill press for smoothing out some of the tighter curves.
|
 |
 |
She turns to the belt sander to finish
the shaping of the templates. She is careful to smooth the curves and keep to the line.
|
As she completes the shaping of each piece, she adds
the markings from the small plans to indicate where the screw holes will be located. We
will be using some of those holes for fastening the template to the wood for shaping.
Next Maureen labels the template.
